"Bachelor is our

                        Back yard"

UPDATED 12/14/2014

Welcome

Welcome to the Bend Ski Club website.  We focus on recreational skiing,  adult team ski racing, as well as club social events.  Beginning at the start of the season, on-mountain meetups occur regularly at Mt. Bachelor.  Our Race Committee is the organizer and host of Friday Night City League racing at Hoodoo.  Bend Ski Club holds a number of social events throughout the winter, at various locations in Bend.

HISTORY

In 1996 we got started through the efforts of Al Zempke, a Bend businessman and avid skier.  Over the intervening years, Ryan Gage, Hans Eriksson, Larry Barker, JoAnn Ray, James Sutherland, Dave Kornish, Walt Stone, Jeff Perin, Greg Timm, and Phillis Temple, amongst others kept the club going.  Joe Bentley, Al Pierce and Merle Ross joined the leadership.  Today, Ken Robbins is Treasurer, with openings in President and Secretary positions.  Our board of directors consists of John Stockham, Joe Bentley, Rod Robinson, Tad Scharpf, and Ken Robbins.

Today, we continue with our socials and meetings events throughout the ski season, as well as a renewed emphasis on Club group skiing opportunities on the mountain.  The City League is alive and doing quite well (despite last season's bust of a snow year for Hoodoo Resort) as is member participation in Masters Training.  As we go forward we want to do more to attract and provide an exciting group for camaraderie for all adult downhill snow enthusiasts.  See the "mountain meetups" page for details.

                   CLUB ACTIVITY Summer/Fall/2014

Bend Ski Club did some re-organizing this past summer to get ready for the coming season.  The changes included Joe leaving the President position and becoming the Chairman of the Competition Committee to focus on Hoodoo racing and David resigning (see message below) from his officer position and from the board.  Rod Robinson has joined the board.  Tad Scharpf and John Stockham continue on the board.  Al Pierce continues as Communications Director.  Ken Robbins continues as Treasurer.

This leaves the positions of President and Secretary open.  There are also new positions for Chairpersons/members of the Social/Meetings Committee and for the Membership/Communications Committee.  We are looking for those who might be interested in these opportunities to have fun creating fun.  Please contact Ken Robbins at ker2@bendbroadband.com with your inquiries.

You are also invited to join the board at the next meeting to find out more, offer opinions or see how things work.  It will be at McMennamins, January 19, 2015 6:30 PM.   Please RSVP to Ken (ker2@bendbroadband.com) so he knows whom to expect.

The officers and board members hope everyone enjoyed last season’s events and socials.  We’re looking forward and planning to have more of the same and more for 2014/2015.

Hope your summer was fun & everyone is excited for the new ski season!

The Board of Directors met June 3rd for the Annual Meeting.  In preparation for looking forward to the 2014-2015 ski season and personal availability, changes have been made.  Joe Bentley is moving to the role of "Chairman of the Competition Committee" to focus on coordinating with Hoodoo.  Ken Robbins is continuing as Treasurer.  We are sad to confirm that Larry Barker is ended his involvement as a board member but he will still be a Club member and help out.  John Stockham and Tad Scharpf continue as active board members.  Rod Robinson has joined as a board member.  Al Pierce continues as our Communications Director.

Hoodoo got beaten up last year.  The City League racing was canceled, sorry to say.  This year we're hoping for better.  Go to the "Racing Program" page for details.

How good do you have to be to enjoy club membership?

You can be a beginner or someone happy to do a few runs on the green and blue slopes or the shredder looking for the toughest challenge of the day...steeps, backside powder and trees. You can be the person who heads for the warm lodge when the wind starts blowing and the visibility lessens or the hardcore who likes empty slopes no matter what the conditions.  But everyone can enjoy our warm and friendly social events.

Join us at the Bend Ski Club to share the next exciting ski season on our "backyard mountain"!!

Our social events are held between November and May.  Please check the "Calendar" and "Meetings and Socials"  pages for event details, times and locations.

The Bend Ski Club is also on Facebook (Bend Ski Club).  We are a non-profit, 501(c) (7) organization.

We always welcome new members!  Call Ken Robbins (678-333-5767) or visit the "Contact Us" page for inquiries and information.
